CHANCE’S STORY
A life full of light.
A moment that changed everything.
A story we must share.
On May 2nd, our day began like so many others - quietly peacefully, and filled with the ordinary moments that make up a life together.
That morning, we sat together with coffee in the kitchen before the kids woke up. Later that day, we decided to build a fire pit for our family to enjoy together. Chance, the boys, and I spent the day outdoors collecting rocks and wood.
We laughed, explored the woods, and watched our dogs play by the water.
It was a normal day.
A beautiful day.
Chance was not just the man I loved — he was a father, a partner, a friend, and someone who deeply loved his family.
He had dreams, plans, and a future he was excited about.
He was funny, caring, hardworking, and the kind of person who made people feel safe and loved.
Nothing about that day prepared us for what would happen next.
What followed changed our lives forever.
In the aftermath, we learned that Chance had experienced what is believed to have been a severe psychotic episode associated with psilocybin use.In a matter of moments, the man we knew and loved became consumed by terror, confusion, and a complete break from reality. Before this happened, we did not fully understand that psychedelic substances — even ones often described publicly as “natural” or “safe” — could carry the risk of extreme psychological reactions in certain individuals. We are sharing Chance’s story because we believe more people need to understand these risks. This website was created in his memory — not from anger, but from love, grief, and the hope that awareness may help prevent another family from experiencing this kind of heartbreak. Our goal is not fear or judgment.
Our goal is education, honest conversation, harm reduction, and compassion for those struggling with mental health and substance -related crises.
CHANCE MATTERED.
HE WAS LOVED DEEPLY.
AND HIS STORY
DESERVES TO BE TOLD.
